Walter Kerr Theatre
219 West 48th Street, New York, 10036, US
Why You’ll Love It
Designed by Herbert J. Krapp, the Walter Kerr Theatre (originally known as the Ritz Theatre) was built in only 60 days and opened in 1921. It was a NYC record at the time and while it still holds the history of World War I and the start of the Roaring Twenties in its bricks, the theatre has also undergone multiple changes and renovations since. From a radio and TV station to a children's theatre and then finally a full theatre in 1990, the theatre reflects the name of the critic it was eventually named after in its simple yet charming design. Notable Previous Productions include As You Like It, Penn & Teller, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, The Crucible, Falsettos, Amélie, and finally, their current and longest-running show thus far, Hadestown.
