Why You’ll Love It
Originally known as the Royale when it was originally built in 1927, the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre is known for its eclectic and romantic style and rich history. The interior was lovingly designed by Roman Melzer, an architect for Czar Nicholas II in Russia who came to America with fresh creativity in mind. In his efforts toward Spanish Romanticism, he hired Hungarian artist Willy Pogany for the now-famous murals. Entitled "Spanish Lovers," the art created decorates the arches on either side of the groin-vaulted ceiling. Previous productions include The Pirates of Penzance, The Importance of Being Earnest, Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, A Raisin in the Sun, 13, Once, The Color Purple, Company, and most recently, The Outsiders.
