Funke, led by renowned chef Evan Funke, has put aside the creators’ egos and revealed a synthesis of all their unique and creative minds. Their vision began with the restoration of a 1930s Art Deco building by young architect Dan Brunn, FAIA, who aimed to make it feel like sitting in someone’s living room. There is, however, a careful balance still– combining seen-and-be-seen opportunities with the need to be discreet. In the heart of the restaurant lies a 20ft pasta lab, created using enclosed glass and polished chrome for a complex technical feat that allows guests to observe the intricate creation of their unique and iconic various pasta shapes.
The dining room itself is adorned with 273 hand-blown Murano glass Fizi Ball modular lighting pendants, all of which have a slight sparkling effect that is reminiscent of peering into a glass of champagne to watch the bubbles rise from floor to 24ft high ceiling. If the lighting isn’t enough, be sure to check out co-owner Kurt Rappaport's collection of artwork from the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, and Jean "Johnny" Pigozzi that only add to the subtle glamour of the original space. With handmade pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and an impressive wine list, every meal at Funke will keep you full and happy.
