Crustacean in Beverly Hills has been serving up some of the best dim sum in the city since 1995, but what you may not know is that this restaurant represents one family's success, resiliency, and creativity that spurred a whole new style of cuisine.
The creator of Crustacean, Chef Helene AN, grew up in Vietnam as part of an aristocratic family with private chefs from French, Chinese, and Vietnamese culinary backgrounds. Her family fled when communism began to spread into the country, eventually ending up in San Francisco, where she opened her first restaurant in 1971, a small Italian deli. That deli and her culinary experimentations inspired by the chefs of her childhood grew into multiple restaurants across California. Chef Helene AN was even recognized by the Smithsonian with a Pioneer Award in Culinary Arts as the first to introduce Vietnamese cuisine to mainstream America.
The food at Crustacean Beverly Hills continues this delicious legacy, as well as adding elevated dishes that will satisfy even the most discerning of clientele. Their brunch and dinner menus are both fantastic, but the star of the show is the Secret Kitchen menu, where diners can indulge in multiple variations of the famous AN's Garlic Noodles.
