Originally opened, charred the Great Chicago Fire 13 days later, and then reopened in 1873, this hotel is the oldest continuously running hotel in the United States. It's also the place you can thank for bringing the chocolatey deliciousness of the brownie dessert to life as a boxed lunch treat for women heading to the Chicago World's Fair. Palmer House recently finished a $170 million renovation that preserved the hotel's historic roots while bringing the space into the modern era with fantastic amenities like a 10,000-square-foot fitness center complete with Peloton bikes, an indoor swimming pool, a full-service spa, and a salon.
