The Continental Club

South Austin

1315 South Congress Avenue, Austin, 78704, US

Why You’ll Love It

Opening its doors in 1955, the legendary Continental Club became a premier destination for talented artists and bands like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Paul Ray and the Cobras, Joe Ely, Bill Carter and the Blame, and many more. But it didn’t start out that way! Over 60 years, the space has changed from a swanky private supper club to Austin’s first burlesque bar. After that, it was a blue-collar bar for the working man until it was finally restored to the statement piece it is known as today. And yet, there are still references to its original 1950s design.

The classic neon sign still hangs above the entrance, inviting music lovers from everywhere inside the dimly lit lounge to admire the original murals on the walls and delight in live music from the next big artist. Just don’t forget to pick up a Lone Star from the bar to fit in with the crowd!
