Nixta Taqueria knows that life is about lighthearted fun, but they are absolutely serious about making unforgettable food. Led by James Beard Award winner and TIME100 recipient Chef Edgar Rico alongside certified badass restauranteur Sara Mardanbigi, Nixta is changing the game. By mixing traditional techniques with non-traditional ingredients, this Austin eatery is creating something entirely new.
The whole building comes alive with bright murals of swirling snakes and corn stalks, rainbow patio tables, and floral upholstery to match. Their menu is short, sweet, and mouthwatering, with tortillas and masa made fresh from Mexican heirloom corn. They serve plenty of vegan and vegetarian options alongside their famous duck carnitas and other carnivorous delights, making this an excellent spot that everyone can indulge in.

You will be hard pressed to find nicer restaurant owners than Edgar and Sara. They brought home a James Beard Foundation Award in 2022, Food and Wine Magazine's "Best New Chef" in 2023, and yet still keep their initial mindsight of telling stories through food. You will leave this restaurant wanting to be friends with them, and while you are there you will feel like you already are.
